Lake Angela, PhD, MFA, is a poet and dancer-choreographer with international publication and performance credits. Since 2014, she has directed, choreographed for, and performed with Companyia Lake Angela with members in Barcelona and the U.S. and collaborators worldwide. Now based in Bucks County, the company seeks local dancers, visual artists, musicians, and other artists for collaborative projects that bring Neurominority experiences to a broader audience, increasing appreciation and respect for other ways of knowing. Lake Angela rejects the medical model of a dichotomous mental illness and health but finds the labels she has been given, schizoaffective and multiple, temporarily useful to connect with other Visionaries, speak from the medieval mystical experience in a contemporary context, develop new processes for intersemiotic translation, and augment Mad pride. Through her company’s work, she demonstrates that cognitive-emotional differences are worthwhile ways of experiencing and creating, in spite of the suffering inflicted by a mentally ill western patriarchal culture and the associated prejudice and stigma. We encourage all physical abilities and exploration of the body’s depths of knowledge. For more information, please contact angela20051984@gmail.com.
